People Say the Nicest Things
“Tim, you’re a square peg in a round hole!”
—Quote from a Dumbass Deacon
That statement—meant as a criticism—was once crippling to my life and leadership. But nearly 30 years later, I consider those cruel words a great compliment.
My mission is to model a life of passion, purpose, and generosity with excellence and creativity that inspires people to live with authenticity and a relentless determination to help others. I know—that’s a mouthful. But you’ll understand as you read along.
I’ve spent most of my life in the Church. From being the youngest of four pastor’s kids to being a full-time pastor. And during that time, I’ve always been “Pepsi in a world of Coke” (another “compliment” from a critic). You might say I don’t fit the mold.
Some have called me anti-establishment. But that’s not fair. Because I work in the establishment. From pastoring local churches to leading global organizations, I’ve spent my entire career serving the system. So I’m not an unreliable narrator.
As I’ve told many audiences across the world, “My words will either invigorate you or infuriate you. I just can’t promise which one it will be tonight.” But I can assure you that Square Peg Round Hole will challenge your thinking—which is where learning begins.
This publication isn’t a place for me to rant or run people down. I won’t act like Don Quixote and waste your time tilting at windmills. But I will question the status quo with wit and thoughtful words that suggest sensible solutions for our world.
You’re in the right place if you want to:
be a better leader
break some rules
buck the system
blow off steam
But you’re also in the right place if you want to:
learn about bourbon
leverage your layovers
Those are just a few of the multiple topics I tackle. All posts will teach you how to live and lead with authenticity in an artificial world. All practical. And fun!
So read along for free. If you don’t find wisdom in my words, stop reading. But if you discover value in my voice, subscribe for premium content for $7/month or $70/year.
My goal isn’t to talk at—but connect with—you. And you won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of this newsletter goes directly to your inbox.
You’re not alone!
P.S. This is my family—my number one priority. I’ll talk about them—a lot. So this will help you put a face to a name (from left to right: Cindy, Kelton, Parker, and moi).
